Application for Admission into the Minor Orders (Reader / Subdeacon)

Note: In the Orthodox Church, admission into the minor orders (Reader, Taperbearer, Subdeacon) is conferred by the diocesan bishop, ordinarily within the parish where the candidate is a communicant member. These orders are parish-specific ministries, undertaken in humility and obedience for the upbuilding of the local Church.

This application must be accompanied by:

  1. A letter of recommendation from the parish rector.
  2. A brief statement from the parish council/leadership supporting the candidate's suitability.

Candidate's Statement


Please provide a short written statement (one page maximum) describing:

  • Your sense of calling to the ministry of Reader/Subdeacon.
  • Your understanding of the responsibilities of this office within your parish.
  • Your commitment to obedience, humility, and the spiritual life of the Church.

References


Provide names and contact information for two practicing Orthodox Christians who can testify to your character and life in the Church (in addition to your parish priest).

Attach the following:

  • Copy of Baptismal certificate (and Chrismation, if separate).
  • Marriage certificate (if applicable).
  • Wife's Baptismal certificate (if married).
  • Letter of parish membership (from rector).
