2020 Diocesan Pastoral Conference

Welcome

Dear Fathers and Brothers in Christ,

Christ the Saviour Orthodox Cathedral invites you to the 2020 Pastoral Conference in Miami Lakes, Florida, February 10 – 13.  Our retreat leader will be Fr. Michael Oleksa, who will speak about Orthodoxy in Alaska, the legacy of St. Herman, and the examples of evangelism we can learn from this.

You can go to this LINK to make your hotel reservations.  On Wednesday evening we will be offering an event called “Theology on Tap,” located at MIA Beer Company (10400 NW 33rd St #150, Doral, FL 33172).  The room size is limited, so only the first 40 to reserve a spot will be admitted.  If you would like to reserve a spot, please send an email to theologyontap@protonmail.com, and list your name and parish.

See you in Miami!

In Christ,

Fr. Joseph Lucas
Rector of Christ the Saviour Cathedral
Dean of South Florida

*Important Update*

Some have experienced difficulty getting rooms (particularly for February 11 and 12).  We have an additional block of 20 rooms from February 9-14 at the La Quinta Inn that is situated next to the Town Place suites. Please email or text MIchaela Staskiewicz directly (she is a member of our diocese who has been assisting us for several years now in setting up hotel accommodations for these events) if you need a reservation and she will follow up with you directly.

Michaela’s Mobile: 404-578-8522 (texts are the best)

Michaela’s e-mail : mstaskiewicz@helmsbriscoe.com

Also, due to the complexity of the pick-up/drop-off enterprise here (two different airports of arrival, with numerous terminals), and the lack of volunteer staff on weekdays, we are not planning to schedule pick-up and drop-off for the airports.  However, a parishioner with a van will be making runs daily to and from the hotel for the conference.

Recommendations for those who want to take public transportation to the hotel:

From Miami International Airport:

-Take the Metro-Rail Green-Line outbound (North) from the airport station, and get off at the Hialeah Station

– From the Hialeah Station, you can take the 54 Bus to Miami Lakes (outbound, heading NW), which passes right by the hotel

-Or you can take an Uber from the Hialeah Station (cheaper than from the airport)

From Fort Lauderdale Airport:

– Take the FLA1 shuttle bus from the airport to the Tri-Rail station.

-Head South on the Tri-Rail and get off at the Metrorail Transfer station

-Take the Metro-Rail west to Hialeah Station

– From the Hialeah Station, you can take the 54 Bus to Miami Lakes (outbound, heading NW), which passes right by the hotel

-Or you can get off the Tri-Rail in Opa-Locka, and take an Uber from there
