Dear fathers and lay leaders in our Appalachian deanery & beyond,
Christ is in our midst! For the 6th year, Orthodox Christians are coming together for a Pan-Orthodox gathering near Cumberland Falls, KY! The St. Herman Campout began rather spontaneously during 2020 as a way to gather outside and enjoy company with other Orthodox believers. Since then, it has evolved to include at least 7 parishes (OCA, Antiochian, and ROCOR parishes participated last year). Our local dean, Fr. Basil Biberdorf, plans to join us for part of the weekend. Clergy from St. Athanasius will be coordinating all the services for the weekend and serving the Liturgy. Any clergy coming are, of course, invited to serve. Just let me know. What are the details?
- Campout begins on Friday, Sept. 26 and concludes after the 8am Liturgy on Sunday, Sept. 28.
- Campout will be centered on Falls Creek Campground near Cumberland Falls (not far from Corbin, KY). Falls Creek offers:
- rough site camping with bath facilities
- rough cabin camping with bath facilities
- nice cabin camping with amenities
- RV hookups
- Campout will feature both a robust schedule and downtime including:
- Friday Evening & Saturday Morning Akathists
- Saturday Organized Midday Hike
- Saturday Evening Vespers & Confessions
- Sunday Morning Liturgy
- Games for kids, campfire time, & more
